The research group “Bioeconomy Economics” of the Faculty of Business, Economics and
Information Systems (Dr Terese Venus) invites applications for the position of
student research assistant (20h/month)
The starting date of this position can be agreed upon individually. Remuneration is EUR 12
per hour.
Project description
The student research assistant, who is ideally studying the M.Sc. International Economics and
Business or the M.A. Development Studies programme, will support the research project,
ReValueD. As developing countries face the challenge of fostering economic growth under the
constraint of environmental regulation, this project focuses on the concept of the
bioeconomy. The bioeconomy is considered a means to overcome the development gap
between agrarian economies and sustainable industrialisation by creating industries based on
biological resources and bioprocesses (e.g. biodiesel, bioplastic, bio-textiles etc.). The project
includes case studies in Costa Rica, Ghana and the Philippines. The overarching goal is to
bridge technical knowledge of the bioeconomy with socio-economic realities of developing
countries to create strong market links between developing and developed countries.
Key responsibilities:
- Support research activities including literature research, data retrieval, data
- Assist with any organisational tasks related to the project as and when needed
Person specification:
• Bachelor’s degree in economics or a related field
- Basic knowledge in statistical analysis using STATA
- Very good command of English
- Flexible team player with good planning and organisational skills
- Interest in interdisciplinary research
What we offer:
Participation in an international and interdisciplinary academic research project as well as the
opportunity to gain experience in electronic data handling. Furthermore, there is the
possibility to support our surveys in Germany, Ghana, Costa Rica or the Philippines and write
a master’s thesis based on this work (winter 2023/2024 and onwards) as part of the project.
The contract has a term of up to 12 months.
