The Office of the Children's Commissioner is an Independent Crown Entity, appointed by the Governor-General, carrying out responsibilities and functions set out in the Children's Commissioner Act 2003.
On 1 July 2023, the Office of the Children's Commissioner will become a new entity – the Children and Young People's Commission.
Staff of the current Office of the Children's Commissioner, including this role, will transfer into the Commission to deliver its responsibilities for advocating for mokopuna and monitoring important aspects of government's treatment of them.

Mō te tūnga / About the role
Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, the Administrator role will be responsible for making sure our tari (office) runs smoothly by providing high-quality administration and logistical support.
The job is varied and needs someone who is proactive, enjoys helping others and is happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing, including:
- act as the first point of contact for all visitors and ensuring that the tari is well maintained
- organise stationary orders, catering, venue/room bookings, travel arrangement, office equipment maintenance, new staff set-up
- provide financial support - processing invoices
- support the running of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee
You will be an experienced administrator, ideally with a background in providing administration and logistical support within a team environment. Your organisational skills will be second to none and you will be exceptional in your ability to make things happen seamlessly. The ability to multi-task and prioritise work will be your superpower!
The successful candidate will also have:
- Expertise in administrative systems, procedures and technology
- High level of proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS Outlook, in particular)
- Excellent communication skills, particularly oral and written skills
- Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, or a commitment to broadening your knowledge in these areas is highly desirable
- Experience in financial administration – understanding of Public Finance Act administration budgets and invoice / account reconciliation
- A salary between $61,734 – $70,000 gross per annum (although we may be able to offer slightly higher for the right candidate)
- A hybrid working model - some days working in the tari and some working from home
- 4 weeks annual leave plus at least 3 additional paid leave days each year
